Something has really been bugging me lately; it's the amount of time I spend "on hold" during phone calls. Several times recently I've had to call the Social Security office. Each time I've been put on hold for nearly 40 minutes as I wait for "the next available representative." This same thing has happened with calls to other businesses and after a while it really becomes annoying. A similar frustration comes when I am directed to a voicemail box that is "full - unable to receive message." Then there is the frustration of being able to leave a message only to have no one return my call. When taken all together it becomes clear that some people are just hard to connect with! But there is One who never puts us on hold; is never too busy to visit, and is always responsive to our needs. By now you've probably figured it out - it's the person of God... One of the remarkable truths we find in scripture is that God is always ready to hear our prayers and to meet our needs according to His will. Just think about it: God hears us when we are stuck in the belly of a whale, (Jonah). He hears us when we are thrust into a den of lions, (Daniel). He hears us when we are oppressed and afflicted, (Moses). He hears us when we are sad, (David). He hears us when we are in trouble, (Paul). In short - God hears us. The other day my wife was trying to tell me something and I'll admit, I was distracted. My mind was simply "somewhere else." After a few minutes she realized that I really wasn't paying attention so she began making ridiculous statements, "I bought a house today. John (our son) took and new job and is moving to California. etc." After a few minutes my attention come back to the conversation and I said, "What?!" She knew I wasn't listening. God never puts us on hold. God's attention never wanders from us. God never fails to respond. What a blessing and joy it is to Know that God hears us when we call. "Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know." (Jeremiah 33:3) "Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear." (Isaiah 65:24) "Because He has inclined His ear toward me, therefore I will call upon His name." (Psalm 116:2) No matter what your situation or frustrations may be, call upon the Lord. He will never put you on hold!
