Marriage and Family Therapy involves a specific approach to solving individual, couple, and family problems utilizing principles of Family Systems Theory. What is Solution-Focused Brief Therapy?
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy is an evidenced base approach to counseling which utilizes a "solution building" process, in contrast to the "problem solving" approach used by most other types of behavioral therapy. The result is a clear identification of the client's "best hopes" and "preferred future" along with an effective and efficient way to move towards a life that the client longs for. Solution-Focused Brief Therapy has been shown to be just as effective, in treating relational and mental health issues, as other therapeutic approaches but in a more efficient (briefer) way.

The length of therapy depends on several factors: the complexity of the presenting problem, the depth of the presenting problem, the readiness of the client for change, and the willingness of the client to actively participate in the counseling process. Do You Work with Children and Adolescents?
We work with both children and adolescents but there are some guidelines: For individual sessions we will see adolescents age 13 and above. However we request a parent/guardian be present in the building as we often visit with the parents at the closing of the session. Children, ages 12 and under, will be seen in the context of a "family session" with one or both parents present. We believe that the parent is the "expert" regarding their child and we need the parents insight and perspective to best help their child.
