I recently "connected" with Debra Laaser on linkedin. In doing so I learned that she and her late husband, Mark, had worked together, for over thirty years, developing the Faithful and True ministries which provides services especially for those struggling with sexual addiction. (You can read more about their ministry at: www.faithfulandtrue.com.). Their services include: counseling, workshops, articles, podcasts, blog posts, and books. They have a wonderful team of professionals dedicated to assisting individuals and couples in their struggle with sexual addiction. I believe most are aware that the need for these kind of professional services is rapidly growing... One of the effects of the covid-19 pandemic is that many people now are working from home and a growing number are spending a greater and greater number of hours "glued" to their computer. The net effect of this is an increased focus on: internet porn, social media conversations (some appropriate, some not), addiction to cyber games, on-line gambling, and significant amounts of wasted cyber-time. Along with all of this we are seeing: loss of productivity, damaged relationships, addictive behaviors, and significant increases in anxiety and depression. One of the outcomes of covid-19 is that what was already a serious problem in our country (Cyber and sexual addiction) is now becoming a literal crisis. The good news is that there is help. Not all of the ministries dedicated to sexual addiction are located (as is Faithful & True) in Minnesota. Chances are, where ever you are, there is either a clinic or a therapist, in private practice, who is trained in working with sexual and cyber addictions. Solution Focused Brief Therapy is the primary approached used at Living Hope Family Therapy and Counseling. It is an approach with a proven track record of effectiveness in dealing with various addictions. So if you are looking for a therapist in the greater Tulsa area (North Eastern Oklahoma), please feel free to give me a call, (918.914.4673). Though a vaccine is on the horizon, we will be dealing with the damaging effects of covid-19 for some time to come. Most certainly, we will be dealing with the damaged lives and relationships that have occurred as a result of this increase in cyber activity, for a good long while. So please don't wait to get help. Resources for help and healing are available. If the son of man sets you free, you shall be free in deed.
